Candidate Filing Period For 2022 Elections Opens Next Week
People seeking office this year can make their intentions paperwork official beginning next week.
According to a press release from the state Office of Elections, the 2022 election cycle kicks off with the opening of candidate filing March 1. The filing period runs through June 7.
Individuals interested in becoming a candidate for elected office must complete and file a nomination paper to appear on the ballot. One of the requirements for prospective candidates to file for office is obtaining signatures from a minimum number of voters in the district they are seeking office.

The state’s 2022 Primary Election is Aug. 13 and the General Election is Nov. 8. Hawai‘i votes by mail, so voters should expect to receive their ballots 18 days before each election.
