Virus Continues to Slam Hawaiian Islands With Hundreds of New Cases Daily

The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 389 new cases of coronavirus statewide Tuesday, bringing the overall total to 43,616.

One new COVID-related death was reported.

The increase in coronavirus cases has been expected with more travel and the arrival of the Delta variant in the Hawaiian Islands.

The state’s two-week average is now 349 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 6.2%. A map documenting new cases by district across all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.

The island-by-island case count is as follows:

O‘ahu: 30,614
Maui: 4,319
Hawai‘i: 4,195
Kaua‘i: 568
Lana‘i: 114
Moloka‘i: 57
Pending: 0
Out-of-State: 1,733

A total of 2,756 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 538 have died.

To date, a total of 1,764,469 doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide, with 60.3% of the population fully vaccinated and 67.3% having received at least one shot.
