Over a Dozen New Cases Reported on Kaua‘i

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 13 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, April 29.

All 13 of the cases are Kaua‘i residents: five are children and eight are adults. Three of the cases are related to inter-island travel. The remaining 10 cases are considered community-acquired. Contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine, and offered testing.

“We are observing unrelated community-acquired infections island-wide. This indicates that for the first time, we have extensive and sustained community transmission on our island,” said Janet Berreman, Kaua‘i District Health Officer. “Now more than ever, if you have not been vaccinated, please schedule your appointment now. In addition to being vaccinated, it is crucial to stay home when you are sick, avoid social gatherings, distance, and wear your masks.”

Today’s cases bring the number of active cases to 43, with 283 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 246 confirmed locally, two probable, and 35 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
