Kaua‘i Identifies Two New COVID Cases, as Infections Continue to Rise

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, April 26. There were 70 identified by the State Department of Health across all islands.

Both cases are female residents – one adult and one child, whose sources of infection remain under investigation. Contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine, and offered testing.

“Two cases reported yesterday have been removed from the case count after the Department of Health was notified by the lab that there was a reporting error,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, Kaua‘i District Health Officer. “The two cases removed include a visitor travel-related case and a resident community-transmission case that was unrelated to any current cases. We have been assured that procedures are being put in place to prevent future lab errors.”

Monday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 22, with 258 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 223 confirmed locally, two probable and 33 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.

Kaua‘i: 224 (County total is 223, noted above)

Moloka‘i: 37
Pending: 0
Out-of-State: 1,036

A total of 2,103 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 478 people have died.

To date, a total of 1,161,471 doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered statewide.
