3 Active Cases in Kaua‘i County, Mayor Reports

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Kaua‘i County has dropped to three with one of the individuals being released from isolation on Friday.

During Friday’s COVID-19 briefing, Mayor Derek Kawakami said the remaining cases are in isolation and the identified close contacts are in quarantine. No new cases were reported by Hawai‘i Department of Health, leaving Kaua‘i’s cumulative total of cases at 47.

While the case count remains low in Kaua‘i County, Kawakami noted, statewide numbers are rising with O‘ahu seeing more than 100 new coronavirus cases for two consecutive days.

“It is a reminder that any travel off Kaua‘i is extremely risky right now,” the mayor stated. “Please avoid any recreational travel.”

One of the recent cases diagnosed on Kaua‘i was an adult resident who had contact with an individual who traveled inter-island. As a result, the community has called the county to reinstate 14-day quarantine for inter-island travelers.

Kawakami assured the public that he has heard their pleas and is in discussion with the emergency management operations on whether or not this is an option.

As of Friday, the DOH reported 123 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total to 2,111.
