Two new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Kaua‘i District Health Office this weekend bringing the number of active cases on the Garden Island to seven with a cumulative total of 40.

The latest cases, officials say, are residents involving one adult and one child. They are unrelated to each other and have no known connection to the recent outbreak on Kaua‘i.

After weeks of no additional cases, two household clusters were identified last month. Since that time, Kaua‘i health officials the Hawai‘i Department of Health have aggressively been working to identify close contacts to those clusters. While some new cases were identified, many of the contacts have since been released from quarantine.

The DOH continues to gather more information on the latest cases, but at least one case appears to be travel related. Both individuals are in isolation and contact investigations are ongoing.

Close contacts will be identified and notified directly by DOH personnel and offered a test. Updates on new positive cases will be announced as they are confirmed.

Kaua‘i officials again remind residents to refrain from large gatherings with people outside their immediate household. If residents must go out, wear a mask, keep physical distance from others and stay outdoors as much as possible.
