UPDATE: This report has been updated to reflect a mistake in virus reporting by the Department of Health. Kaua‘i reported only four new cases of the coronavirus for Thursday’s update, not five as DOH previously noted. That means the daily case total and the statewide pandemic total were also one fewer than reported. The numbers have been changed to reflect the accurate counts as of Thursday.

The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the statewide total to 850.

DOH identified four of the new coronavirus cases on Kaua‘i and 11 on O‘ahu. The cases on Kaua‘i are connected to one household. The new cases include an adult and three children from one household who are now in isolation. Other members of that household are in quarantine.

The eight previous positive cases, which were identified last week, are from a separate household and also remain in isolation., Kaua‘i County said in a press release.

“All the individuals are either mildly ill or asymptomatic. So far no one has required hospitalization,” said Kaua‘i District Health Officer Dr. Janet Berreman.

The county-by-county case total is as follows:

  • Honolulu: 595
  • Maui: 122
  • Hawai‘i: 86
  • Kaua‘i 34
  • Pending: 0
  • Out-of-State Diagnoses: 14

To date, 109 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 infections, and 17 have died. A total of 696 individuals have been released from isolation and are considered recovered.
