4 New COVID-19 Cases Identified Through Contact Tracing
Four additional COVID-19 cases have been identified through contact tracing of a household cluster discovered in Kaua‘i County last week. The total of coronavirus cases has now reached 33.
During the county’s daily briefing, Mayor Derek Kawakami said this new cluster is from a different household. They were identified as close contacts to the cluster of eight individuals who are reportedly in isolation. Watch the full briefing in the video above.
Kaua‘i District Health Officer Janet Berreman said one adult and three children make up the new cases. They are now in isolation and their family members are in quarantine.
Berreman said all active cases are either mildly ill or asymptomatic. So far, no one has required hospitalization.
“As a result of contact tracing, we’re continuing to identify, test and quarantine additional contacts,” Berreman said. “We expect to receive test results over the next few days.”
It is unknown at this time if travel was involved with these clusters. The investigation is ongoing.
Kawakami said the new cases will be reflected in Thursday’s statewide numbers. As of Wednesday, the state had 16 new cases, bringing the total to 835.
