Man Dead After 2-Car Crash on Kaumualiʽi Highway

A Līhuʽe man is dead if a two-vehicle crash on Kaumualiʽi Highway near the Maluhia Road junction on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:48 p.m. According to Kauai Police Department, a motorist, operating 2015 white Nissan pickup truck, was traveling east on Kaumualiʽi Highway when she reportedly crossed the centerline and struck the 60-year-old man who was traveling west in a 2000 silver Porsche 2DCV.

The driver of the Porsche suffered fatal injuries. The Kapaa woman was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released.

Kaumualiʽi Highway was closed in both directions for approximately one hour before one lane was reopened. Traffic was redirected around the scene while an investigation was conducted. The highway reopened at about 5:15 p.m.

The name of the driver of the Porsche has not yet been released due to notification of next of kin.

Kauaʽi police are asking anyone who might have seen the crash to contact Officer Shawn Hanna at 808-241-1615.

This is Kaua‘i’s third traffic fatality of 2020.
